During EGD, a conventional nasal cannula remains practical and unobtrusive, but it provides a less predictable inspired oxygen concentration because of room-air entrainment and mouth breathing. The Procedural Oxygen Mask (POM) is designed to deliver a higher effective FiO2 and may better preserve oxygen saturation; however, direct comparative efficacy data for routine EGD are limited so the strongest randomized evidence currently comes from semi-prone ERCP, where hypoxemia was lower with POM than nasal cannula (5.3% vs 18.7%; p=0.024)
